Character Info
Ability: None
Species: HumanAs you can see. Loki is a blind, one-armed ex-military. He got booted the moment they realized he's kinda useless in the battlefield after his injuries. He got off with a pension, but y'know. Was the trauma worth it? His discharge from service wasn't too long before he met Syke.Loki was really depressed when he realized he would never regain his vision again, nor the feeling in his dominant arm. Meeting Syke at such a vulnerable moment in his life, really helped him to slowly but surely get his footing back. He rekindles his passion for music, but it comes with the territory of relearning how to "life", how to use his new arm, how to see without his eyes, etc. He has Syke to help him with his journey.Loki lived alone in one of the rooms of a two-story apartment. He stays on the ground floor right beside the back door. He usually volunteers to help out with the cleaning and maintenance of the place. The kitchen is a shared space and so are the bathrooms, making the rooms themselves tiny. Can’t ask for much with rent that low.
He likes living there though. The other tenants are nice to him, though they come from far away places and lead very different lives. The tenants like to keep to themselves most of the time and they rarely bump into each other in the house. The tenants are usually just there to rest or sleep after work and stuff, but Loki likes to invite them to the kitchen space for dinner sometimes. He likes company. Currently living off his pension, he doesn’t really need to have a job as long as he keeps his expenses manageable.
.
There’s been word on the street that a troublemaker recently moved into town and is making a mess wherever he goes. The backyard walls of the house and parts of their fences have fallen victim to this thug. Loki’s been kindly asked to help paint over the walls since according to the old landlord, they seem to have uh highly rendered private parts painted on them.
It’s become somewhat like a weekly chore to do. Every time he paints over it, he gets told a week after that their walls got tagged again. It was getting tiring.
.
One of the tenants was getting rid of an old beat up couch they had, and Loki went over to help when he heard the thumping of it coming down their wooden staircase. There was nowhere to put it so they just kinda left it out the backdoor near where the garbage stays. They keep waiting for the garbage truck to pick it up but they never do. Eventually they just started hanging out there. The occasional smokers in fact appreciate it. They’d sometimes have a beer or two out there, or random chitchats and gossip about the other tenants living there. It became the spot to chill if you wanted air away from other people.
.
At some point while Loki was taking out the trash, he noticed someone was asleep on the couch. They didn’t seem like any one of the tenants or the landlord, maybe an acquaintance of someone? Whoever it was, they shouldn’t be sleeping out there, it was starting to get cold out.Anyone would take one look at this guy and your first instinct would be to panic or call the cops, not wake them up and offer hot chocolate. Good thing Loki’s blind. Actually, most of the tenants don't even know he’s blind or if they did know, they kinda forget with how reliable he is and how little to no help he needs. It most likely Loki's way of not wanting to be a burden. He always wears sunglasses, and inside his room usually has a blindfold or nothing to cover his eyes at all, especially when it gets too hot in the summer. On a similar note, he wears long sleeves and a glove to cover his prosthetic arm.
.
It’s been a while since Syke left the gang. With a reputation like his, he couldn’t live in the same state without causing a ruckus. He decided to travel to different states with only a bag of paint, some pencils, gas mask, an old skateboard he probably stole, and the clothes on his back. Man really had his priorities in mind when he decided to pack up and go. Not a dime to his name, he got by stealing basic necessities, never really out of greed. It’s also why he gotta keep on the run, wanted in multiple places but only for petty crimes. LA was a different story. But nvm that. He’s looking for a fresh start. He’s just not the best at making friends or being a model citizen.
.
After being woken up from a nap, seeing this blond fella wearing sunglasses outside while it was raining, was definitely not what he had expected. Syke's first instinct was to run or attack since THEIR first instinct USUALLY was to chase him off, but instead he was handed a cup of hot chocolate like wtf is going on…
Ability: None
Species: Reptilian
Genus: Serpentes (Snake)The narcissistic reptilian virgin we all love to hate. The most selfish, arrogant, self-serving, member of the group. He'd marry himself if he could. The roommates did not like him at all in the beginning. But he needed a room, and the roommates could do with another person to split the rent with. The dynamic is Alduin and Syke hate each other with a burning passion, the others just kinda tolerate him, and Loki tries to keep the peace in the house.Alduin is insufferable. He's ambitious though. Not one to be lazy when it comes to achieving his dream to be a model. He also has this huge insecurity about his race. He doesn't think all the reptile snakey-ness is attractive at all so he does his best to hide it at all cost.I like to think Dewey has a loooong journey for his character development, and I'm here for it.
“If i knew you were only going to have one parent, I wish it would have been your mother…”Ability: None
Species: Human (Aves???)
Genus: Cacatua (Cockatoo)Yes, Jackson permanently mutates into big bird man somewhere along the story whom they refer to as "Jax" 🐓Jackson is a divorced college dropout who has a daughter he visits twice a month. It was a couple years later of living with Syke and the others that a series of unfortunate events, leading up to the accident that triggers his mutation. He doesn't recall much after that. It was like Jackson and Jax are two different entities living in one body fighting for control.Jax acts more like a pet and has very animalistic impulses, but sometimes, a little bit of Jackson leaks through when Jax would instinctively go visit a little girl whom, in his mind, he has never met before, yet feels a very strong bond with and a compelling obligation to care for and protect with his life.Sometimes Jackson gets to control the body. Usually when Jax is asleep or tired. He takes the form of an almost human looking bird. It’s not like Jax refuses to give him control, Jax doesn’t have any idea how to give him the wheel. It wasn’t Jax’s decision to exist in the first place. If anything, Jax takes good care of their body since Jackson never did when it was his.Jax is an animal, but he has instincts. He knows he isn’t supposed to be there, he knows he’s just getting in the way of this lonely father and his daughter, he knows he doesn’t belong in the picture. Nothing can be done though. Sure he’s grown attached to the roommates and the daughter. He loves being around them. But even a stupid animal like him can sense how much they wish to have their dear friend back. He could never fill the hole that Jackson left.Jax the bird is an entirely different entity from Jackson. Sometimes Jax hears his voice in his head, like a conscience you ignore every now and then. Like when Jax sees a worm on the ground-
“Do n t”
“Want. Eat. Yes.”
“Jax. No- don’t eat the-”
-eats it anyway-
-sighs-
.
They don’t always get along. But when it comes to their daughter, if she were ever to be in trouble or someone decides to mess with her, that’s a different story. There are two separate and very different souls that reside in that body. Two souls. Both angry.
Ability: Isolation Field
Species: HumanHer ability is Isolation Field, which generates box-like space that renders everything within it nonexistent. Everyone or everything outside of the space will only perceive an invisible cube-like structure blocking their pathI don't know much about her other than she's super mean to the roommates, except towards Loche whom she treats like a little brother.
She's home late most of the time, but when she's home she likes to effortlessly bully the roommates.I think she wants to be a tattoo artist someday. Syke lets her color in his tattoos like a coloring book sometimes. She's more on the mischievous side, who cons and haggles and has all these quirky schemes to make moolah. It may even be how she got involved with the roommates in the first place. she definitely uses seduction to get her way. When her tricks don't work on the roommates she gets frustrated, thinks they're probs just gay men. They couldn't get rid of her since. She would just break in their home and hang out, to the point that the roommates kinda just accepted the fact that she lives with them now.
Redd might have run away from home and just decided she didn't need anyone and y'know, just be able to not rely on other people and live out on her own like an adult.
The dark side to her story is that she most likely sold her body to disgusting men to survive out there in the big world, have a roof over her head or a place to stay at, get free dinner and stuff. This horrible cycle is put to an end when she meets the roommates. They fed her and let her stay at their place with nothing in return.
Loki is like a welcoming auntie collecting these misfits. They may have even convinced her to go back to school.
She tries to act mature and all. She's definitely mature for her age, but at the end of the day, she's still only just a teenager with teenager problems. She finds a familial bond with the roommates and she wouldn't trade it for the world.
Ability: None
Species: HumanI'm still figuring things out about them as I go. I think Loche is the one that acts like an adult in house. Often has to remind the others about the bills, rent, grocery, etc. The house would fall apart without him.He likes to keep to himself in their cramped space, studying usually. He wants to go to a good college in the future. It sounds to me like he had to grow up fast even before he joined the roommates.I imagine, Loche told the roommates he ran away from home and asked if he could crash at their place for a bit. It's been quite some time since then. They're just waiting on Loche to really tell them why he was homelessLoche grew up in the system when he got taken from his home due to domestic abuse. He kinda gave up on being adopted by anyone with how antisocial and stoic he is for a kid. As he got older he knew for a fact he'd never get adopted. He would sneak out, skip school, get in fights, and pretty much anything to seemingly sabotage his own future. He wasn't wanted or needed anyway. The people at the orphanage don't understand why he was doing this when he is a very bright boy who would have a great future if he could just stop these "childish tantrums" as they call it.
Loche doesn't harbor any hatred for them or his parents. Whatever those people were doing for him, it just felt fake. He felt like a burden or just another chore they had to figure out and get rid of. Of course that's not how they think but it's how this dumb 12 yr old brain sees it.
It's when he lives with the roommates that he slowly starts to feel understood and wanted despite how he is as person. They don't try to control, dictate, patronize, coddle, or pity him. They see him for who he is and he really appreciates that about them.
At some point in the story, I want them to legally become Loche's guardian. Can't be out here kidnapping a child yikes. Plus it would make stoic little Loche cry to be officially part of a not very traditional and totally chaotic family.
